We hiked Mt. Timpanogos with a bunch of people from my work. Every summer, roughly the same group of people (led by Brent, the 1/2 man, 1/2 mountain goat) go on a couple of big hikes together. How cool is that!?! I've been hiking with the group for around 4 years and Lady Timp is always on our list.
We arrived at the Timpooneke campground parking lot bright and early, ready to hike 14 beautiful miles. We ended up hiking 10 or 11 beautiful (and sometimes frozen) miles.
We chose mid-July for the hike with hopes of seeing lots of beautiful fields full of wildflowers. Unfortunately, the only field of flowers we saw was about 1/2 mile from the parking lot. Oh well, they were gorgeous anyway.

The hiking group always makes fun of me for taking so many pictures... but they all end up asking me for copies Monday morning. Funny how that works ;)
I love hiking with this group because we always take time to hydrate and snack along the way.

The pink streaks in the snow are caused by watermelon algae which, as it's name suggests, looks and smells like watermelon. I've heard it tastes like watermelon too, but would NEVER eat it as I've also heard it has a pretty strong laxative effect. Yikes! I'm not a fan of the idea of being helicoptered off the mountain with explosive gut bomb because I was an idiot and ate the pink snow. Nope.
This was the closest we got to the top. Right after we snapped this picture it started raining/snowing. No bueno. NONE of us came dressed for that kind of weather. We were sliding all over the place on the snow and shivering in our shorts. The group voted unanimously to head for home 5-ish miles up the trail. (Thank heavens! I was frrrrreezing!)
On the way down we stopped by the last chance potty. Pee-yew! Quite possibly the worst smelling latrine ever. Then again, I imagine all latrines probably smell that bad. What do you expect!?!
The weather went from one drastic weather change to another. We went from t-shirts to sweatshirts to t-shirts to sweatshirts and back to t-shirts again. Lady Timp is a fickle mistress.
When Scott was a boy his Scout Master called him 'Scott Scout'. How adorable is that!?!
Scout falls is a beautiful detour off the Timpooneke trail and great way to cool off at the end of the hike.
It was wild to feel the need to cool off after being freezing cold only a few hours prior to this picture.
Beautiful! We'll have to try hiking this trail again, hopefully with better weather. Anyone who wants to come along is welcome to join us!
